FAMILY CYCLES TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER

Since the late 1990s, Woon has been an active cyclist. He has participated in various cycling events, such as races, fun rides and long distance tours. However to Woon, he would prefer mountain biking over any other type of bikes simply because of the variety of off-road routes in Kulai. Besides, mountain biking offers many challenges.

Eventually, Woon’s wife was influenced and began cycling. They even took part in events as husband and wife. As a female cyclist, his wife used to be unenthusiastic to hop on a bike and go off-road. However, after a constant persuasion by Woon, the couple finally brought along their two sons to cycle together.

The addiction to cycling is real. The family has been obsessed with cycling, ever since. “I was once a person who puts working as my priority. I had to work 7 days per week. I rarely took a break from work because earning money was all I ever wanted.” Said Woon. As he grew older, he has realized the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Learning to let go, hence, Woon has scheduled a cycling program for him and his family. During the weekends, the family will pedal to the nearest city, across different towns and the most importantly, breathe some fresh air.

If I were to choose between money and health. Without hesitation, I would choose the latter.

BUILDING A CYCLING COMMUNITY

Due to Woon’s cycling competence, whoever plans to pick up cycling will seek for his advice. Despite there are beginner cyclists joining in his cycling team, Woon will not hesitate but to provide his cycling skills to new members with all he can do.

“As a team, we should help and support each other.” Woon’s cycling team, KT91 (Kulai Team 91) gathers all passionate cyclists all around Kulai, including most of his customers. Woon is only just a cyclist, he also initiates, encourages and motivates more new members to cycle.

According to Woon, his cycling team was named after an oil palm tree with a signboard of number 91 on it, where the oil palm farm has become their regular off-road cycling route. However, on other days, they will cycle on-road to Melaka, Cameron Highland and Penang.

“It is a great benefit to me, where I can enjoy my recreation with my family and team mates.” Woon’s sons are strong as the adults as they are able to complete the distance, albeit their young ages. Woon hopes that in one day, his sons will be qualified in taking part in big races in the future.

Furthermore, Woon hopes to pass down his bike shop to his sons when they grow up. “At this moment, they might be reluctant to follow in my footsteps. However I believe, they will be thankful when they grow bigger.”

On the 27th August, in collaboration with a school in Kulai, KT91 and Mei Deck Bicycles Trading will be organizing a fun ride, with the support from Tarson Marketing and other sponsors. Moreover, Woon, himself will also be contributing some prizes for the event.

“We know we are becoming more virtuous people, not only because of the results above, but also because of the way other people respond to us. Our friends, families and customers will trust and rely on us. They will come to us for guidance and help, and will want to be around us because we inspire them to be better people.”

In summary, providing Woon’s knowledge allows him to develop his potential, at the same time, he also lives a more purposeful, better life; a life not ordinary but extraordinary.
