The bicycle trading and retailing industry in Malaysia is a conservative one. Over the years of promoting cycling as well as introducing to Malaysians a range of premium bicycle brands and products, GHCT had participated as sponsors in many fun and competitive cycling events.

“We felt it was timely to explore different and interesting ideas to reach out to serious cyclists, consumers as well as novice and newbie cyclists. Andrew’s unique approach to use cycling and cycling events is a new way of consumer marketing for us.”

While having an integrated warehousing complex in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam, and two retail outlets in the Klang Valley, GHCT is beginning to match its distributorship with market and consumer demands by exploring different channels to touch base with cycling enthusiasts and consumers.

Cycling over 2700km and to take more than a month, Andrew shall also be visiting touristy sites promoted by Tourism Malaysia on the latter’s effort of “Discover Malaysia by Bicycle.”

“The objective of all these plans is to encourage people at large to get-up, get out and move more, cycle more and to adopt a new recreation in cycling.” said Andrew, a full-time cycling commuter since turning 50 years old. “And if you can use your fitness hobby for a good cause, it can be in running, swimming or cycling; you truly become a game-changer to use that fitness to carry out social good deeds.”

There are a couple of companies who are willing to pledge to raise funds to support Andrew’s cause. Personally, friends are also chipping in. “We hope to raise RM20,000.00. This will help the House of Light to sponsor more blind students, free of charge tuition, using the i-Learn Ace software for mobile and online learning, developed by Sasbadi Online. At only RM385.00 a year, whatever amount we’re able to raise will go a long way to help visually-impaired and under-privileged students to improve their studies,” Andrew commented.

A portion of the funds raised will also be used to up-skill visually impaired masseuses. Within premises of the HoL, blind masseuse will be taught the use of essential oils and aromatherapy. Certification and training will come at a cost. The House of Light founder, blind social entrepreneur Stevens Chan, applauded Andrew’s endeavours and hoped people he meets will support FAMA with their donations.

The wisdom of having preventive healthcare in mind is still not a prevalent habit in many Malaysians. Reacting to this aforementioned malaise, Mos Tan said, “In conjunction with FAMA, we hope that people will be inspired by Andrew’s cycling spirit and good deeds. GHCT will continue to explore with Andrew newer cycling events for ideas to reach out to consumer needs. “We hope many people will support his cause to help the visually impaired and it is our duty to encourage more cyclists to follow suit too,” Mos nodded approvingly and wishing Andrew every success in his cycling feats.
