Kedah To Host Red Eagle Tour 2019 Cycling Race

11th December 2018, Alor Setar – Kedah aspires to be a sports tourism hub in the northern state by hosting the first of its kind, highly-anticipated Red Eagle Tour 2019. The cycling event will be one of the state’s many sports tourism activities aimed to create a positive impact on Kedah’s economic prosperity and beef up its social development.

Organized by Master Pacer Venture, the Red Eagle Tour 2019 is a road cycling race and will be held on 23 – 27 April 2019, involving 120 local and international cyclists. Master Pacer Venture is renowned for involving in top-notch cycling events such as Le Tour de Langkawi, Jelajah Malaysia, Tour De Selangor, and KL State & National Team Cycling Rider.

Speaking at a Press Conference in Alor Setar, Kedah Chairman of the State’s Sports and Youth committee, YB Encik Mohd Asmirul Anwar bin Aris said the state aims to promote sports tourism in Kedah especially cycling events among the youths.

“We hope to mould new amateur young cyclists in Kedah as well as improve the quality of this sport for the nation while promoting the scenic routes of Kedah. The collaborative effort between Master Pacer Venture and Kedah State in organizing Red Eagle tour 2019 will also complement the government’s efforts to attract tourists as part of the Visit Malaysia 2020,” added Mohd Asmirul.

Red Eagle Tour 2019 will be one of the many platforms to promote sports development, culture and the tourism industry to a new level as well as create new opportunities which will propel Kedah to become a sports tourism powerhouse.

Hosting an international sporting competition such as Red Eagle Tour 2019 often leads to economic benefits as well as rejuvenate and boost further local tourism. Not only are the people inspired to travel more by watching such events but they are also inclined to pick up new sports during the competition.

It is hoped that the Red Eagle 2019 event will see an increase in cycling tourists in Kedah besides encouraging more youths to take up the sports. The event will complement Malaysia’s efforts to be among the world’s top 10 tourist destinations by 2019 and 2020 aiming 36 million tourists’ arrivals with and rake in an expected RM168 billion in tourist receipts.

The pre-event to Red Eagle Tour 2019 will be held on January 12 and 13 January featuring a 7km Fun Run, 40km Fun Ride and 160km Century Ride. The main event will be held between April 23 and April 27 covering a cycling distance of 750km. A total of 20 teams will participate, of which there will be 6 cyclists in a single team contesting in 5 stages crossing 5 districts in Kedah.

The event will be transmitted onto the televisions in the living rooms all over the world showcasing to the global audience the best of Kedah. A total of 100,000 spectators are expected to watch the race with wide electronic, print and social media coverage.

The Red Eagle Tour 2019 will also nurture new cyclists, train and develop amateur cyclists to a higher level, enable new cyclists to experience the actual arena as well as include this event in the Malaysian sporting calendar under the auspices of the National Cycling Federation.

Some of the long-term plan arising from the Red Eagle Tour 2019 event is to encourage more youths to participate in a sporting event such as cycling, and at the same time promoting cycling as a healthy sport which leads to healthy living. Ultimately, Red Eagle Tour 2019 wants to develop more youths to become future international cyclists.
