With high-quality manufacturing and strong research and development capabilities, Taiwan has established its significance in the global bicycle industry and has been dubbed “The Bicycle Kingdom” since the 1970s.
The TAIPEI CYCLE Show continued to grow over the past 30 years, witnessing the development of the bicycle industry and firmly establishing its leading status in Asia including Malaysia. In response to the needs of the bicycle industry, the TAIPEI CYCLE Show entered a new chapter from 2018, rescheduling to 31st October to 3rd November 2018.
The achievements of the year were presented in a brand-new way at the TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards 2018, including 45 winners who were announced at a pre-show press conference and award ceremony organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council and Taiwan Bicycle Association and executed by IF DESIGN ASIA Ltd.
Eight companies from Taiwan, China, and Singapore took home the prestigious TAIPEI CYCLE gold award. A start-up company won the special “Gold Award – Young Enterprise” for their brand-new electroluminescence decal. Professional and enthusiastic internationally-renowned experts were invited to sit on the judging panel and examine the entries.
With today’s broader application of loT technology, “IoT in the Cycling Industry” has been added as a new category for the first time. Together with the original four categories covering bicycles, components and parts, peripherals and accessories, and e-bikes and pedelecs, a total of 120 entries were registered for the TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards 2018.
As Francois Liang (General Manager of the Cycling and Health Tech Industry R&D Center in Taichung) pointed out, many of the entries this year showed their diverse characters with the help of outstanding development capabilities and advanced technology, which echoes the theme of the TAIPEI CYCLE Show 2018. Complete bike makers are paying more attention to details and form design, especially with respect to special-purpose bikes.
Components and parts are more functionally oriented, bike engineering works, such as weight reduction, are well thought through to increase performance. An integration of mechatronics and the application of recently developed bike technologies on e-bikes and pedelecs is where the design and innovation of components and parts are headed.
Additionally, to satisfy the demand for indoor workout and fitness needs, many entries have worked with or are made for specific software and IoT products, which expands the options for bicycle products.
