Kuala Lumpur, 24 April 2018 – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) took the initiative to promote the usage of 11-kilometer Blue Bicycle Path created by Kuala Lumpur City Hall earlier this year. This Blue Ride Program is one of the initiatives aimed at fostering cycling activities among residents and DBKL employees in particular and also making Kuala Lumpur a Bike Friendly City.
Organized by the Department of Culture, Arts, Tourism & Sports, DBKL in collaboration with Multigreen Events Sdn. Bhd, the Program was flagged off by Muhammad Fauzi B. Ahmad, Region Event & Sponsorship Manager of F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd and Senior Deputy Director Culture Arts Tourism Sports Department DBKL, Puan Hasliza Abdul Hamid.
A total of 100 participants consisting of DBKL officers and staffs, members of media, and former national cyclists such as Noreffendi Rosli, Suhaimi Keton, Musairi Musa and Suhardi Hassan showed up at the Blue Ride Program.
Mayor of Kuala Lumpur Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Bin Abd Aziz rode with invited guests, DBKL officials and staff starting from Dataran DBKL (Jalan Raja Laut), the convoy cycled along the blue bicycle path to Menara DBKL 3 (Jalan Raja Abdullah) and returned, covering around 3.6 km distance.
Although DBKL is implementing various measures to educate the public on the implementation of these bicycle routes including placing enforcement teams, other vehicle users continue to be rigid with their irresponsibility.
Besides motorcyclists who continue to misuse the passage, the driver of the vehicle is also left behind when parking their vehicle on the passage, thereby preventing cyclists. Also present at the Blue Ride Program saw the Chairman of KL Car Free Morning Joint Chairman, Datuk Naim Mohamed and the Executive Director of DBKL.
