It is important to use sunscreen in the sun, but how many of us often pay attention to the importance of wearing sunglasses to protect our eyes against harmful rays.

Not just a fashion accessory, sunglasses offer defense against ultraviolet rays that can cause short and long-term eye damage including cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, and other sun-related eye diseases.

Rudy Project offers an extensive range of sunglasses, both prescription and non-prescription, for all types of athletes. But what can sunglasses do to prevent damage to your vision and other elements?

Sunglasses are available with many different lens technologies, we have put together a guide of Rudy Project’s most advanced lens technologies available.

ImpactX

An exclusive semi-rigid platform

ImpactX is a family of patented polyurethane optical polymers, transparent and unbreakable, originally developed for military and aerospace requirements to provide bullet-proof, transparent, and light-weight material capable of providing superior protection, reliability and longer lasting performance than polycarbonate.

Unbreakable Photochromic Optics

ImpactX lenses boast breakthrough photochromic molecular properties formulated exclusively for Rudy Project and represent today the most advanced technological solution in the field of vision protection. Thanks to their transparency and superior optical quality, lenses made in ImpactX ensure sharp vision and unbeatable comfort.

Photochromic technology

Unlike most photochromic standard lenses, ImpactX lenses are fused in the mass of the polymer itself with a complex manufacturing process, making it more resistant and clearly optically superior to most competitors.

Lightweight

ImpactX lenses are 16% lighter than CR-39 and 10% lighter than polycarbonate, they have lower internal stress and chromatic dispersion than polycarbonate, resulting in sharper images, higher definition reduces “rainbow effect”, and more visual comfort. The program offers cutting-edge photochromic and polarized technology for unparalleled weather management.

Polar 3FX HDR

After years of intense research, Rudy Project has updated their Polar 3FX technology to take your vision to the next level. Polat 3FX HDR technology eliminates glare providing superior visual comfort, enhanced contrast, and contours.

In addition, the new Polar 3FX lenses incorporate the HDR (high dynamic range) filter to further define contrast and color perception. To ensure maximum toughness and durability, Rudy Project has boosted the Polar 3FX lense with the revolutionary 3FX Coating anti-smudge and anti-aging treatment.

RP Optics

RP Optics lenses protect against harmful UV rays up to 400um and offer a range of over 30 available colors. Ideal for athletes and weekend warriors who demand performance but accept no compromise when it comes to appearance, RP Optics is the industry benchmark in polycarbonate lenses thanks to their high impact resistance and the wide selection of coatings and colors available. Rudy Project’s R&D department carried out a set of scientific researches to design static lenses targeted to different uses.

Prescription Solutions

ImpactRX

ImpactRX prescription lenses are made of the same proprietary material as the ImpactX photochromic lenses. They are created individually, using the wearer’s prescription, but also the wearing parameters processed by digital calculations to maximize a full field of view and prevent distortion in wraparound sports eyewear.

Optical Dock

Optical Dock is a full rim clip that represents a perfect solution for sportsmen who need substantial vision correction and want to benefit from the design, technology, and comfort of Rudy Project sunglasses. Optical Dock models, such as the Rydon, Fotonyk, and Stratofly, allow any material to be used for prescription lenses, including “stock” lenses. With this system, lateral protection and stability in the event of impact are maintained.

Direct Clips

Direct Clips technology allows you to insert prescription clips behind the plano lenses of Rudy Project’s performance models. It also allows opticians to easily refine the edges of corrective lenses in their own laboratories without the use of complex cutting machinery. Nylor mounting makes use of high-resistance materials, suitable for withstanding the stress of sports use. Thanks to the patented smart mounting system, this solution offers the versatility of interchangeable clear and sun RX lenses in the same frame.

Optical Inserts

The RX Optical Insert clip is available in almost every Rudy Project performance sunglasses – including the Defender, Tralyx, Fotonyk, and Sintryx, allowing athletes and weekend warriors alike to experience the uncompromising comfort and performance of Rudy Project’s sunglasses while keeping investment in corrective lenses to a minimum.

Flip Up

Flip Up glasses utilize quick change technology and offer some of our most popular plano lenses. Flip Up allows the solar filters to be raised or lowered quickly over prescription lenses for the athlete on the go.

Rydon Readers

Rydon Readers are pre-mounted sunglasses conceived for sportsmen who need support for reading and no compromises in term of style and functionality. A magnifier lens is seamlessly integrated within the lower part of the RP Optics sun lens to help you reading and looking through maps or devices screens such as mobile phone, GPS, cycle-computers, and heart monitors.
