Cycling “Heroes” help to drive awareness on Breast Cancer being ‘Gender Blind’, affecting both men and women

28 September 2017, KUALA LUMPUR – Neubodi, a homegrown lingerie specialist brand, and its charity partners, invites members of the public to register for “Pedal Forward with Neubodi” aimed at raising funds for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA)’s “Hospital Angels” programme. The 18km cycling event, taking place on 7 October will conclude 1 Utama Shopping Centre’s Ground Floor – High Street Concourse and is part of Neubodi’s yearly “Bra Drive” campaign. Themed “DONATE. SUPPORT. RECYCLE”, the campaign is held in conjunction with the International Breast Cancer Awareness month and will see various Neubodi in-store activities organised from 5 October to 5 November.

Registration for “Pedal Forward with Neubodi” can be made at www.mystartr.com “Project Pedal Forward”. With a goal of raising RM100, 000; over 100 Heroes cycling from Bandar Utama to Kota Damansara and finishing at 1Utama, commits to meeting an individual fund-raising target of at least RM850 towards BCWA’s “Hospital Angels” programme. BCWA’s  initiative will see trained specialists visit newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to help them learn to cope with the disease in an encouraging and positive environment. Participants can stay updated by following the “Pedal Forward” team at #pedalforwardwithneubodi

Heroes will be ambassadors to raise awareness that breast cancer is “Gender Blind”, affecting both men and women, and help to promote a better understanding of breast cancer among their family and friends, encourage early detection and address gender discrimination associated with breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute Malaysia, less than 72% of men treated are likely to recover from the disease, for unlike women, men tend to delay going to the doctor until they have more severe symptoms – at which point the cancer may have already spread.

“Having had organised cause-based cycling events for about 20 years, I can certainly vouch for the community spirit riders have which often extends their immediate circle of family and close friends,” explains James Bak, Ride Director, Ebakz Sports – the team behind the on-ground logistics of Pedal Forward. ”While we will be able to honour cancer survivors participating at the event, Pedal Forward will serve to unite the local cycling community and encourage dialogues around breast health in both men and women in a fun environment.”

Some 100 “Pedal Forward” bicycles will be provided on site (first-come-first serve basis) while those preferring to use their own may do so.

Heroes can expect to be joined by many local celebrities and public figures such as Puan Sri Dato’ Akmal, Amber Chia, Thanuja Ananthan, Isabelle Liow and many more – some with personal experience of living with breast cancer and yet others whom have had dealt with or lost close ones to the disease.
