Previously, cyclists from Beaufort had to travel all the way to Kota Kinabalu to get bike’s repair service and purchase bike products. It was a hassle for them to take one and a half hour of car drive just to run their errands. Ever since the start-up, Robin has gained his customers visiting from other districts as well, such as Membakut, Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Menumbok and far as Brunei due to the near distance and affordable prices he charges. Thanks to the presence of Robin’s bike shop, cyclists habitually bring their bike for bike cleaning service before their races.
For instance, a simple bike cleaning service is only charged for RM20. Moreover, Robin offers bicycle upgrades. However, bicycle full service is not provided due to the condition of being shorthanded. “I will never charge high prices, because my regular customers are like my friends.” Robin spoke.
The business conditions for a bicycle shop are unpredictable. Unlike bike shops in other states, Robin’s shop is always frantic regardless of the Ramadan fasting month as his consistent customers include other ethnic groups in Beaufort too.
Robin’s 2-in-1 shop has become a place where people walk in not just for bike or pet stuffs, but end up sharing their cycling stories and getting some in return. Visitors have rekindled the desire to communicate and linger around the cordial atmosphere to chit chat, meanwhile patting a grouchy Garfield or two!

HIS COACHING JOURNEY BEGINS
Junior Cycling Malaysia is promoting cycling in Malaysia through the creation of a series of races, and identifying the junior talents, therefore I am doing my best to cultivate more future talents.
We fell into conversation with Robin who has also been joining cycling events in the state. Apart from assisting his customers in the shop and dealing with more orders from his online business, Robin often shows up at cycling events in Sabah. It has been his pleasure to accommodate participants’ bike finishing. Moreover, he can comprehend the cycling development, in order to contribute to the cycling community.
In addition to Robin’s fervor for cycling, he is currently undertaking National Cycling Coaching Course which is conducted by Suod Hussain, a coach for Malaysian Cycling Junior Team. He has discovered the massive growth in cycling and seen potential in junior cyclists in Sabah. He believes that athletes should be putting all their passions, devotion into the effort in the spirit of participation, for the love of their sport and for the nation.
“Junior Cycling Malaysia (JCM) is promoting cycling in Malaysia through the creation of a series of races, and identifying the junior talents, therefore I am doing my best to cultivate more future talents.” To Robin, fostering potential teenagers by supplementing their cycling gears and training within his capability is the reason of his sense of achievement.
There is nothing more rewarding than giving back and making a difference in the lives of people in this great community. Be it meeting the cyclists’ needs or appeasing the pet owners, there is only one purpose to Robin: making contribution.
