One may ask what a 160km bicycle ride can offer apart from aching muscles and a nasty sunburn that lasts for days. The 1,500 participants of the inaugural Perak Century Ride (PCR), organized by the Levelo Cycling Club, rode on a combination of flat roads and rolling hills. Out of the 1,500 participants, about 600 participants came from Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Iran and the United Kingdom.
PCR was also organized to introduce the scenic countryside of Perak, known fondly as the Silver State. The quiet countryside, dotted with quaint ‘kampung’ houses, paddy plantations and oil palm estates can only be fully appreciated on a bicycle. Participants started their journey from Casuarina Meru, Jelapang after the flag off at 7am by Perak Exco Member, Datuk Shahrul Zaman, who is also the Chairperson of Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia, together with Miss Vynndy Gan and Sharudin Bin Not.
The event ended with prize-giving and lucky draw sessions. Sponsors included SA Sports, the main distributor for Ghost, KHS and Argon 18 bicycles, Key Power Sports, Cycling Express, Garmin, Apex Pharmacy Marketing Sdn Bhd, Cycling Malaysia Magazine, Lost World of Tambun, MFG, PowerBar and Casuarina Meru.
