Attack Chinese New Year with an all you need to know cheat sheet for calories! And have a guilt free CNY ride along.

Chinese New Year, one of the most prosperous and fun celebrations of the year but it comes with a little price, calories, and a whole lot of it. Those little biscuits and snacks can surprisingly add up to over a thousand calories. Now those are just the snacks, we didn’t even include the buffets, and factor in the number of homes you will be visiting, now that seems like a ride that even you wouldn’t want to take. Nonetheless, we have you covered.

Now, here’s our pro guide on how to stay healthy and fit but have an amazing guilt free Chinese New Year. First step, plan a workout session and stay consistent, if you are travelling back to your hometown, draw up a little workout schedule and fit in sessions in the morning or whenever that suits your trip itinerary. The key is always consistency, and it’s as simple as that.

Now you can be as consistent as you’d like but those calories aren’t a joke, hence why portion control is always advised. The goal is to get in as much protein as you can as opposed to carbs and fats so that way you are still fueling your body with that good good amino acids that build up those juicy muscles that we want. Try to follow a ratio of 2 to 1 in favour of protein to carbs and fats.

Now for those who want to have a little drink, why not but it’s as easy as just limiting the amount you take in. Be selective with your choices of drink as well, wine or a glass of Gin would be ideal choices but if you end up stumbling over and end up with a glass of beer in your hand, just run off those calories the very next morning. And If it was up to us, scratch out alcohol, as it’s just a bottomless pit of empty calories or better yet swap it with fruit smoothies or juices.

Finally, wherever you find yourself for the New Year, have your bicycle, your gear and a hydration with you, and squeeze in a morning ride with your loved ones, which adds to the social aspect of why we love cycling. It’s a great way to bond with your relatives who may be a tad bit too judgemental on those extra pounds you’ve put on since the last time they saw you. Ride to beautiful spots, take photos and they all just add onto the memories you have for New Year.
