As Malaysia is going through the endemic phase of covid, it doesn’t mean that Covid-19 will come to a natural end.
So, if you are infected with the virus, and have been asked to isolate and recover at home, or care for someone who has covid at home, how can you keep everyone around you safe as well as yourself safe and recover from the covid?
Here’s what you can do to safely recover at home.

1.Give yourself time to recover

It is only common for sick patients to push themselves to get better and try to get back to their normal life after their isolation.

However, patients who try to return to their normal lifestyle too quickly experience a backlash of fatigue, shortness of breath, and muscle aches. Eventually, it forces them to reset and rest before getting back into full health.

The fastest way to recover is to take it easy and then gradually increase your activities.

2.Hydrate and Eat healthy

One of the common symptoms of covid is loss of appetite, taste, and smell. This may lead to many patients forgetting the importance of good nutrition.

Hence, remember to take in a good amount of hydration and a balanced meal throughout isolation.

Here’s a good example, have 2.7 to 3.7 liters of water per day and try out the Mediterranean diet which is fueled with whole grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables that could help in the recovery process.

3.Resistant activity

Post-recovery covid patients often find cardiovascular exercise such as running, cycling, or lifting weights harder. Instead, start with resistance training, such as working with a resistance band, free weight exercise, yoga, or pilates. Once you feel better, you can throw in some light cardio.

4.Fresh air

Having good ventilation in the room when you have Covid is critical. It means having fresh, clean air coming through as much as possible by opening windows.

5. Optimize sleep

Sleep, sleep and sleep it’s probably the best medicine for recovery. Here are some tips for better sleep including making sure your bedroom has good air circulation and is cooler than it is during the day. Reduce any electronic disruption such as using your phone before bed, as it stimulates your brain to be active, and avoid exercise two hours before sleep.

If possible try avoiding sleep or napping during the daytime, it can help reset your sleep schedule.

To summarize, if you are vaccinated or boosted, immunity is complicated, and the chances of getting Covid or reinfected are still there.

Hence, we should still take these precautions seriously. Wear your mask, wash your hands, wear a mask, and social distance,

We are all in this together and we are all responsible for keeping our community safe to prevent a further spread.
