5 Reasons Why Shimano Burung Hantu Is Popular

In Malaysia, cycling is a fast-growing sport which is well-liked by the cycling community, from children, teenagers, adults, to veterans. They love the aerodynamic adrenaline on road, irresistible thrill off-road, whereas some cyclists switch from road cycling to mountain biking, and vice versa.

There are a number of cyclists who excel in road cycling and mountain biking. Both types of cycling are a great way to add on exoticism to rides that will leave imprints in your memory for a long time. While the popularity of mountain biking is booming at a fast clip, mountain biking events, jamborees, and races are being held regularly, all throughout Malaysia.

With thrilling mountain bike trails having attracted mountain bikers everywhere, Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree is earning a reputation that is drawing more than 2,000 bike enthusiasts each edition.

In order to achieve this, there must be reasons why Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree is the most exciting and popular mountain bike event in Malaysia.

1. Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree is the biggest mountain bike jamboree in Malaysia.

This jamboree is the biggest mountain bike night in Malaysia and highly anticipated by the mountain biking community attracting participants not only from Malaysia, but also cycling enthusiasts from neighboring countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and riders from Japan and Europe.

Venturing into its 8th edition, the organizer, Environment Cycling Club is targeting at a maximum amount of 2,000 participants this year.

2. Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree is a charitable cycling event.

This jamboree takes charitable initiatives. Every RM5 from each registration will donate to charity as what Environment Cycling Club did for the previous years. In 2014, Environment Cycling Club gave a sum of RM5,000 each to Persatuan Kanner Melaka and St. John Ambulance Malaysia Cawangan Bachang, Melaka.

In 2016, Environment Cycling Club donated a total amount of RM10,000 to 2 beneficiaries – RM5,000 to National Cancer Society and RM5,000 to the St. John Ambulance Malaysia Cawangan Bachang to support their good deeds in saving lives.

3. Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree is held at night.

This jamboree is held, excitingly, in the dark. When the sun goes down, relatively tame trails in daylight become far more exhilarating propositions in the dark and there is a real sense of adventure in heading into the wilderness and onto the rough and rugged trails.

Like burung hantu (owl) in their natural habitats, they are specifically adapted to hunting at night or in low levels of light, and nestling in coniferous forests and mountains. The exceptional hearing and soundless flight enable the owls to locate their preys from long distances away. Just imagine yourself riding in the woods like a burung hantu!

4. Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree is well-equipped for safety.

This jamboree covers an average distance of 45km to 60km where the participants ride on a mixture of courses. Riders ride on a tarmac road, then through the oil palm plantations and rubber estate, while taking a pleasure in a nightly experience of nature’s forest.

Saddling up for a moonlight roll adds more fun to the participants with a little uphill and downhill followed by technical single course trails. Of course, LED lights will be set up every 50 meters along the off-road trails to ensure safety. Also during the event itself, there will be ride marshalls, off-road motorbike marshalls, 4×4 to accompany participants.

Go ahead and have fun!

5. Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree is held in historical Melaka.

This jamboree aims to promote tourism in Melaka. Since its inaugural edition in 2010, it has been held in one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia. Besides the many captivating sites, Melaka is also well known for its mouth-watering food. In 2008, UNESCO proudly listed Melaka as World Heritage Site.

Taking part in Shimano Burung Hantu Jamboree allows participants to stay over in Melaka for an additional day or two to enjoy the delicious food that Melaka is famous for, and visit the attractions, all clearly representing the great culture and history of the city.
