10 Questions Every Cyclist Must Answer

“Cycling is my hobby. It keeps me occupied, and it is good for health.”

 

1. How did you pick up cycling? What keeps you motivated?
I cycle not just to improve skills, also for better emotional control, I can overcome daily challenges. I cycle for self-improvement, rather than podium results.

2. What to do or what not to do during a ride?
Pay attention to the surrounding environment; Cycle in a group; Do not eat excessively before a ride, you will feel uncomfortable during your ride; Be careful of traffic

3. What’s your worst injury? How do you reduce your chances of crashing?
In 2015 during KONVOI BERBASIKAL 1WILAYAH PERSEKUTUAN 2015, I passed out at one of the climbs because I stopped completely right after climbing which caused the blood not to flow to my brain. We should cycle slowly to warm down.

4. What has been your most memorable ride so far?
2016 Kerian International Duathlon.
The scenery was superb along 5km Run, 45km Cycle and 10km Run.
Beautiful water dam, nice hills, highways, small pathways, local residences, children and some spectators were cheering to motivate the participants.

5. How much of your salary goes into buying cycling products? Would you consider yourself a budget cyclist?
About RM1,000 a month, which include cycling events fees, logistic, accommodation, bicycle maintenance and some upgrades.

6. If price does not matter, what is your next cycling upgrade or escapade?
New Scott Foil 20.

Monday – Off; Tuesday – 30km; Wednesday – 60km; Friday – 70km; Saturday – Off; Sunday   – 100km of ride or cycling events

8. How do you optimise your nutrition, before, during and after your ride?
3 days before events, no spicy food, oily food, beef and cutting down on chicken intake. Prefer fish, egg, bread rather than rice. During ride, Energy gel along with sodium salt water every hour. After ride, 1 liter of Full Cream Milk and another 1 liter of Full Cream milk before sleep at night.

9. What can you say about ladies getting into cycling?
It’s good. Cycling enhances the quality of life, health, confidence and energy. I would not miss out on sunscreen protection.

10. Who do you want to cycle with? What are the reasons?
My 9 year old daughter, because I want to share the happiness and satisfaction with her.
I would also love to cycle with one of my male cyclist friends, as he is a fast rider but I wish I could follow his pace.
