19 October 2014, SUNGAI BULOH, —The Merida Riders Community Malaysia (MRCM) organized its first friendly mountain bike (MTB) ride consisting of Merida bike owners from beginners to experienced riders. MRCM is a Facebook group administered by cycling enthusiasts, Nazmie and JayJay. Pedalspot and Ngee Cycle Trading ventured hand-in-hand to support this event with the sole aim of bringing together all Merida owners and strengthening their bond through cycling.

The sweat filled fun ride was held at Elmina estate, owned and operated by Sime Darby. The palm oil plantation spreads out over 3000 acres and has all the challenges a mountain biker can bet on. The Elmina plantation has three hills that demand good climbing skills and riders enjoyed the long and fast swooping corners while descending downhill on the smooth but loose gravel.

A total of 50 Merida owners turned up for this event, with Coach Jessen Lee from The Ride School being present to share his expert riding tips with the participants. The event was made even more memorable with the resident bike community Sutama Cycle who provided excellent support by sending their marshals and sweepers.

By 7.45am, participants were already gathered at the SHELL Saujana Utama. Briefing sessions by the MRCM admin provided some imperative information to the riders and safety briefing by Jessen Lee ensued. With the “no man is left behind” spirit, everyone made it out safe from the 20km ride. Goodie bags courtesy of Pedalspot were given out at the end of the ride. The event ended at 1.00pm.
